About U.S. Citizenship Questions

A free study site for the U.S. naturalization civics test, built around how the test is actually given.

Most citizenship study material is a PDF of questions and answers. That is fine for reading, but the civics test is not a reading test. A USCIS officer asks you questions out loud, and you answer out loud, in English, often while nervous. We built this site so that practice looks like the interview: you hear the question, you say the answer, and the questions you miss come back until they are solid.

What is here

  • All 128 questions and acceptable answers from the 2025 USCIS civics test, in official order, each on its own page with a memory hook and a read-aloud button.
  • The Citizenship Interview Trainer, a free tool that uses spaced repetition and scores every round the way the officer does: 20 questions, 12 to pass.
  • Plain explanations of the rest of the interview: the N-400 review, the English reading and writing tests, and the 65/20 version for older applicants.

Where the content comes from

Questions, acceptable answers, and the reading and writing vocabulary are taken from documents published by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which are in the public domain as works of the U.S. government. Explanations, memory hooks, and the trainer are our own. We check the question list against the current USCIS publication when it changes; if you spot a difference, tell us.

What this site is not

We are not affiliated with USCIS, the Department of Homeland Security, or any government agency, and we are not lawyers. Nothing here is legal advice. Questions about your own application belong with USCIS or an immigration attorney or accredited representative. Free and low-cost legal help is listed at uscis.gov.

Who built it

U.S. Citizenship Questions is built and maintained by Mark Flournoy. It started as a study tool for the spoken civics test and grew into the full set of pages here. Mark is not an attorney and the site does not give legal advice; corrections and suggestions go to the contact page.

How the site is funded

The study pages carry a small amount of advertising. The trainer itself has no ads and never will, because nobody should be interrupted mid-question. We do not sell anything and we do not collect accounts or email addresses.
